Select Soccer at BIFC

Bainbridge Island FC (BIFC) is extremely proud of its Select Soccer Program. The success of BIFC’s teams can be directly attributed to the long-term, progressive development of the individual players on our teams. From the beginning, BIFC players are trained with their long-term development in mind rather than immediate team success. BIFC coaches are committed to this philosophy and our club utilizes a professional coaching staff to ensure that players get the maximum amount of learning and development.

Everything we do is about building people and building kids. We believe that good values lead to good people, and good people can do great things. The way we do that is through soccer, we provide opportunities for players to play the beautiful game because the beautiful game is fun to play. Although our players are trained with their long-term development in mind rather than immediate team success, we find success following this path. Come play on our team!

Not only do BIFC Select Team players perform well in the realm of club soccer, but BIFC training is also proven preparation for high school soccer. The strength of a high school program usually reflects the number of club players on the team and the level at which those players compete during their club season.

Program Details

Who: Soccer players born in the years 2008-2016 who wish to play in a competitive soccer environment. Teams are formed based on a tryout process. Although we try to keep as many players as possible, teams are formed based on skill level and we cannot provide a place on a team for all players.

What: BIFC Select Soccer is a competitive soccer program. Players go through a tryout process and are assigned to teams based on their skill level within their age group.

Where:

Tryouts take place at Woodward Middle School.
Games are played throughout the Puget Sound Region.

When:

Tryouts dates and times are as follows:
- U11 (players born 8/1/2015-7/31/2016): Wednesday, April 29 & Thursday, April 30; 7:00-8:15 pm
- U12 (players born 8/1/2014-7/31/2015): Tuesday, May 5 & Thursday, May 7; 5:30-6:45 pm*
- U13 Boys (players born 8/1/2013-7/31/2014): Tuesday, May 5 & Thursday, May 7; 7:00-8:15 pm*
- U13 and U14 Girls (players born 8/1/2012-7/31/2014): Tuesday, May 5 & Thursday, May 7; 5:30-6:45 pm*
- U14 Boys (players born 8/1/2012-7/31/2013): Tuesday, May 5 & Thursday, May 7; 7:00-8:15 pm*
- U15 Boys (players born 8/1/2011-7/31/2012): Wednesday, May 13 & Thursday, May 14; 7:00-8:15 pm
- U15-U19 Girls (players born 8/1/2007-7/31/2012): Wednesday, May 13 & Thursday, May 14; 8:15-9:30 pm

*TRY OUTS FOR THE U12, U13 AND U14 AGE GROUPS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO MAY 5 AND MAY 7. THE TIMES HAVE ALSO BEEN ADJUSTED FROM THE ORIGINAL SCHEDULE.

Training begins in early June. Teams train twice a week throughout the summer, and usually play in three summer tournaments.
The fall season begins after Labor Day. Teams will play a 12-game regular season in the North Puget Sound League.
Teams continue to train two to three times a week during the regular season. Training continues through the month of December and into January to prepare for state tournaments that take place in January and February.

Cost: $1900-$2125 per season (varies based on age group)

Pre-Tryout Open Training Sessions

Prior to tryouts, we will be holding open training sessions for any player who is interested in trying out for Select Soccer. These sessions are not mandatory and are not part of the tryout process. They are voluntary sessions that will allow players to brush up on their skills and prepare for the upcoming tryouts. Attending open training does not obligate a player attend Select Soccer tryouts.

The open tryout schedule will be as follows:

U11 Boys and Girls: Friday, April 24; 3:45-4:45 pm; Woodward Grass
U12 Boys: Thursday, April 23 & Tuesday, April 28; 4:45-5:45 pm; Woodward Grass
U13 Boys: Thursday, April 23 & Tuesday, April 28; 3:45-4:45 pm; Woodward Grass
U14 Boys: Tuesday, April 21 & Tuesday, April 28; 5:00-6:00 pm, Woodward Turf

Select Level Commitment

At BIFC, Select teams train two times each week for 90 minutes per session. In addition, goal keepers are required to attend weekly goalkeeper training. Scrimmages, practice games, and tournaments are an integral part of the commitment. Scrimmages or practice games may be scheduled during the week in addition to regular training or on the weekends. Teams enter three tournaments each summer. Tournaments will require weekend travel in the Puget Sound area and possibly beyond.

Beyond the added training, match and tournament requirements, Select-level players are truly challenged to perform at a higher level both technically and tactically, individually and as a team. More is expected of each player and each team in terms of commitment, effort, desire and development.

The Playing Pathway

Foundation Phase – Under 10-11 ages

Discovery Phase – Under 12-13 ages

Competitive Phase – Under 14-15 ages

Elite Phase – Under 16+ ages

Play Ups

Children will be allowed to try out for older age groups in certain situations. Please notify Director of Coaching, Ian McCallum, if you intend to try out for an older age group. Players trying out for an older age group must also try out for their own age group. We do have a set criteria for players being allowed to play up. Each player’s position will be individually reviewed by the BIFC Director of Coaching and coaching staff.

HS Age Groups

BIFC teams within the older age groups will be formed in a similar manner to which HS teams are formed across the state of Washington and the U.S., with Varsity, JV and JVC groups representing the club.

Where Do Our Select Teams Play?

Bainbridge Island FC continues to explore avenues for the best competitive soccer playing opportunities for our players. We always evaluate league placement to challenge our players and to add variety to the experience. At the same time, we remain cognizant of the time, travel and costs of the program as a whole. All of our teams currently play in The North Puget Sound League (NPSL). We feel strongly that there should be opportunities for our competitive players to play on a team, and for us to be able to provide the appropriate playing experience for our players all the way up to the elite level.

Peninsula League (NPSL)

For the Foundation Phase U10 age group, we try to minimize travel, and in 2023 we created the Peninsula League. The Peninsula League allows the majority of our U10 age group players to play all of their games on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas.

North Puget Sound League (NPSL)

For the Foundation Phase U11 age group, and Discovery, Competitive and Elite Phases, we believe that playing in the local North Puget Sound League provides excellent levels of competition that ensure our players are challenged and develop as individuals and teams.

Placement in these leagues provides opponents in the Greater Seattle area, and ensures we minimize travel whilst ensuring we find appropriate levels of competition. NPSL1 is the highest level in these leagues.

Winter Select Soccer

BIFC’s Winter Select Soccer offers players the opportunity to gain competitive experience and improve their skills through a six-game winter season. Training begins in late February, with games played locally on Bainbridge Island, the Kitsap Peninsula, and the Olympic Peninsula.

Program Details

Who: Soccer players who were born January 1, 2011 – December 31, 2015 who wish to play in a competitive soccer league.

Where: Training is held at Woodward Middle School or Bainbridge High School. Games are played all over the Puget Sound region.

When: Training is held twice per week beginning in late February. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays (depending on age group) from late February to early April.

Cost: $400
